Bandwidth refers to the amount of data that can be transferred between your website’s server and a visitor’s browser over a given period of time. In simple terms, it affects how quickly your website content—such as pages, images, videos, and files—can be delivered to visitors.
A connection with higher bandwidth can transfer the same amount of data more quickly than a connection with lower bandwidth. This typically results in faster loading times and a smoother experience for visitors, especially during periods of high traffic.
Bandwidth can also be thought of as your website’s “data capacity.” The more visitors you have and the more content your pages include (like high-resolution images, videos, and downloadable files), the more bandwidth your website may require. If your website exceeds its available bandwidth, visitors may experience slower performance or limited access.
When you reach your bandwidth limit, a notification banner will appear in your website dashboard. Exceeding your bandwidth limit also means you won’t be able to publish any new changes until your usage resets or you upgrade to a higher-tier website package.
